Solution 02 — Generate your own

Your roof is an
untapped power station.

Commercial solar turns dead roof space into decades of cheap, clean, price-stable electricity — with payback typically inside five years.

3–5 yrtypical payback
Overview

The economics have never been better

Panel prices have fallen while grid electricity has done the opposite. The result: a well-designed commercial array now routinely pays back in 3–5 years, then generates essentially free electricity for another twenty.

River handles the whole journey — structural and shading surveys, yield modelling you can bank on, DNO grid applications, MCS-accredited installation and ongoing monitoring. Surplus generation is exported for income, or better still, stored in a battery and used when prices peak.

  • Bankable yield modelling before you commit a penny
  • DNO application and grid connection fully managed
  • MCS-accredited installation teams and tier-one components
  • 25+ year panel performance warranties, 10+ years on inverters

Benefits

Commercial benefits of onsite generation

A well-sized array changes four things at once — and keeps changing them for the next twenty-five years.

Price-stable power

Every kWh you generate is a kWh you don't buy at whatever the market decides that day. Panel prices have fallen while grid electricity has done the opposite, which is why a well-designed commercial array now routinely pays back in three to five years.

Export income

Surplus generation earns through the Smart Export Guarantee or a PPA arrangement. Where your usage peaks outside generation hours, storing that surplus instead of exporting it is usually worth more — we model it both ways before recommending either.

SEG and PPA options modelled

Decades of covered asset life

Tier-one components carry 25+ year panel performance warranties and 10+ years on inverters. After payback, the array keeps generating essentially free electricity for the remainder of that window.

Visible commitment

A roof full of panels says more about your environmental credentials than any brochure — to customers, to staff and to the people auditing your reporting. It is the rare sustainability measure that pays for itself.

What we install

Solar installation solutions

Feasibility, design, consents, installation and monitoring — delivered as one project on one contract.

Commercial rooftop solar

Most commercial roofs are suitable, flat or pitched. We check structure, orientation, shading and remaining roof life during feasibility, free of charge, then design an array around the roof you actually have rather than an idealised one.

Ground-mounted arrays

Where roof space is limited or unsuitable, land-based arrays open up far larger system sizes. Ground mounts usually require planning permission, and we manage that application as part of the project.

Solar with battery storage

If your usage peaks outside generation hours, storage can dramatically increase self-consumption — stop exporting surplus for pennies and use it when grid power costs pounds. We model the system with and without a battery and show you both sets of numbers.

Monitoring, O&M and aftercare

Solar needs very little maintenance — periodic cleaning and inverter checks. Our O&M packages include remote monitoring that flags any underperformance immediately, so a failing string is caught in days rather than at the next annual review.

How it works

Our process

Six stages from first survey to long-term monitoring — nothing subcontracted out of our sight.

1

Feasibility & site survey

Roof or land survey, structural check, shading analysis and usage matching. We establish whether the site works before anyone talks about system size, and the feasibility study costs you nothing.

2

Yield modelling & proposal

Bankable yield modelling before you commit a penny, presented with cost, generation, payback and export income laid out plainly. If the numbers don't work, we say so at this stage.

3

Design, DNO application & consents

Array design, grid connection application to the DNO, and planning where it is needed — listed buildings, conservation areas and ground mounts. We manage the applications rather than handing you a form.

4

Supply & scheduling

Tier-one components specified and sourced, with delivery coordinated to your project schedule. Lead times are managed and communicated rather than discovered.

5

MCS-accredited installation

Installation is typically days rather than weeks, with minimal operational disruption. Access, scaffolding and roof works are planned around how your site actually runs.

6

Commissioning, monitoring & O&M

Systems tested and commissioned, documentation and warranties handed over, and remote performance monitoring set up so underperformance is flagged immediately rather than found later.

SafeContractor approved, MCS-accredited and fully warranted

River holds SafeContractor accreditation for its renewables installation work. Installation is carried out by MCS-accredited teams using tier-one components, with 25+ year panel performance warranties and 10+ years on inverters.

FAQ

Good questions, straight answers

Is our roof suitable?
Most commercial roofs are — flat or pitched. We check structure, orientation, shading and remaining roof life in the feasibility stage, free of charge.
What about planning permission?
Most commercial rooftop solar falls under permitted development. Where planning is needed (listed buildings, conservation areas, ground mounts), we manage the application.
Should we add a battery?
If your usage peaks outside generation hours, storage can dramatically increase self-consumption. We model it both ways and show you the numbers.
What maintenance does solar need?
Very little — periodic cleaning and inverter checks. We offer O&M packages with remote monitoring that flags any underperformance immediately.
