Solution 05 — Power your fleet

Charge points that
think ahead.

Fleets are electrifying and employees expect to plug in. We build workplace charging that's ready for that future — without blowing your grid connection.

Overview

EV charging is an energy project, not an electrical job

Bolting chargers to a wall is easy. Doing it without tripping your supply capacity, distorting your peak demand charges, or buying hardware that's obsolete in three years — that's the hard part.

River designs charging infrastructure around your energy system: smart load balancing that shares available capacity between vehicles, integration with solar and storage so your fleet runs on your own generation, and a billing back-office for staff, fleet and visitor charging.

  • Site capacity assessment before a single charger is specced
  • Smart load management — no expensive grid upgrades unless truly needed
  • OZEV-accredited installation and workplace grant support
  • Billing, RFID/app access and fleet reporting built in

Benefits

Commercial benefits of workplace charging

Charging done as an energy project rather than an electrical job changes four things about the outcome.

Fleet ready

Scalable depot charging with scheduling that guarantees vehicles are ready for shift start. Charger mix is chosen from your actual duty cycles — workplace parking suits smart AC, depot turnarounds may justify DC rapids.

Vehicles ready for shift start

Smart load balancing

Chargers dynamically share available capacity, protecting your supply and your demand charges. Bolting chargers to a wall is easy; doing it without tripping your supply capacity or distorting peak demand charges is the hard part.

Often no grid upgrade needed

Solar-integrated

Pair charging with PV and storage and your fleet runs on your own generation rather than peak-rate grid power. Chargers, solar and storage designed as one system rather than three separate projects.

Charge on your own generation

Grant support handled

The Workplace Charging Scheme and infrastructure grants change periodically. We check current eligibility and handle the paperwork as part of every project, so available funding is actually claimed rather than missed.

What we install

Charging installations

Capacity assessment, design, groundworks, installation and back-office — one team, one system.

Electric car parked at dusk Workplace

Workplace & staff charging

Employees increasingly expect to plug in at work. Smart AC charging suits long workplace dwell times, and the back-office supports free, subsidised or paid tariffs by user group with RFID cards or app access.

Fleet & depot charging

Depot charging designed around duty cycles and turnaround times, with scheduling that guarantees vehicles are charged for shift start. Scalable from a handful of vans to a full commercial fleet as your electrification programme advances.

Visitor & customer charging

Charging for visitors and customers with automated payment collection, tariffs set by user group and uptime monitoring so a broken post is known about before someone complains about it.

Solar & storage integrated charging

Charging infrastructure designed around your wider energy system — integration with solar and storage so vehicles charge on generation rather than peak-rate import, and storage flattens the demand spike charging creates.

How it works

Our process

Six stages from capacity assessment to expansion planning — designed so the system you install can grow.

1

Site & capacity assessment

Grid capacity, parking layout, vehicle duty cycles and future fleet plans, assessed before a single charger is specified. This is the stage that determines whether you need a grid upgrade or simply better load management.

2

Charger design & load management

Charger mix (AC or DC), load management scheme and billing model, designed around your duty cycles rather than a catalogue. Smart load management shares existing capacity intelligently instead of buying more of it.

3

Grants & funding

We check current eligibility for the Workplace Charging Scheme and infrastructure grants, then handle the paperwork. Schemes change periodically, so this is checked per project rather than assumed.

4

Groundworks & installation

OZEV-accredited installation teams, from groundworks and cabling through to mounting and connection. Where a grid upgrade genuinely is needed, we manage the DNO process on your behalf.

5

Commissioning & back-office setup

Chargers commissioned and tested, then the back-office configured — user groups, tariffs, RFID or app access and automated payment collection, with your team trained on it.

6

Operate, monitor & expand

Uptime monitoring, driver support and fleet reporting, plus expansion planning so adding the next bank of chargers is a straightforward extension rather than a second project.

SafeContractor approved and OZEV-accredited

River holds SafeContractor accreditation for its renewables installation work, and all charging infrastructure is installed by OZEV-accredited teams, with workplace grant support handled as part of the project.

FAQ

Good questions, straight answers

Do we need a bigger grid connection?
Often not. Smart load management shares existing capacity intelligently, and pairing with storage flattens demand. If an upgrade genuinely is needed, we manage the DNO process.
Can we charge employees and visitors?
Yes — the back-office supports free, subsidised and paid tariffs by user group, with RFID cards or app access and automated payment collection.
What grants are available?
The Workplace Charging Scheme and infrastructure grants change periodically — we check current eligibility and handle the paperwork as part of every project.
AC or DC rapid chargers?
Depends on dwell time. Workplace parking suits smart AC; depot turnarounds may justify DC rapids. We model your duty cycles before recommending.
